Fancy a Cup of Seattle Tea?

4 Jun

My blogging friend, Bella, over at One Sister’s Rant suggested that we all grab our cameras and show off a little corner of our neighborhoods.  So, here’s my little slice of Seattle.

In my own front yard!

Dandy lil pub at the corner. Too bad the bent-in-half street sign was removed last week.

Fancy an afternoon tea?

Did she say 200 cups? I’ll need some tea biscuits with that.

Super cute inside!

Dogwoods and poppies. Isn’t that orange amazing?

As most of you know, last week a terrible shooting ripped through Seattle, and it started only about one mile away at the Racer Cafe, where four people were killed.  The gunman killed another woman downtown while stealing her car.  When police closed in on him later that afternoon in West Seattle, he shot and killed himself.

It feels cliche to say our hearts are with those who lost loved ones, but it really is true.  All traffic slows when going past the Racer Cafe, and this is what they see – an outpouring of love and concern.

Lori, incredible post! I loved looking at your photos of Seattle! I was very sad to see the photos and read about the tragic events that took place recently. I think those left behind are forever left wondering, why? The death of so many people…my heart goes out to the families who lost loved ones. That said, thank you for linking up, sister! It is much appreciated and I loved the pink blooms of your front yard! Our neighbor has some of these planted in her garden. I think I would much enjoy a trip to Seattle! :)

Honey, it doesn’t compare to the summer on the Mediterranean, but we would have fun! And you’re welcome. Thanks for your kind words for the families… I can’t imagine what they’re going through.

Hi Lori, Thanks for visiting me at my website! It’s so nice to meet you. Your website is beautiful. You and Bella take such beautiful pictures! I would love that yarn shop – I love to knit. So sad about the Racer Cafe! Just so hard to imagine what gets into people’s minds, isn’t it?

Isn’t it terrible? I can’t imagine how the victims’ families are holding up. I’m glad you dropped by and gracias for your kind words. I love to knit too – I’m not very good, but there’s something so satisfying about making something with your hands…

Beautiful photos … and heartbreaking story. Reminds me so much of the situation in Tucson with Gabby Giffords and the flowers lining the roads…

Isn’t Gabby amazing! What a strong lady. I’m sure she’ll always be grateful for the love Tucson showed.

fun neighborhood photos…(although ‘fun’ definitely doesn’t apply to the Racer café shot…man…) Great to see the neighborhood–weird to think that it was ‘my ‘ neighborhood too, in a former life, eh?

You know, it took almost a year not to feel funny about being back. Still miss AZ, but it’s good to be here too. Pricey, but good.

I love your neighborhood! (What a cake!) The photos of the Racer Cafe are so sad — such a terrible tragedy. But I’m glad you took a photo of the outpouring of community support, heartwrenching.

Thanks Julia. I do love all the fun quirkiness of Seattle. As for Cafe Racer, I debated on whether to take those pictures, but it seemed worse to ignore it somehow. So sad!

Such beautiful pictures, and I’m so sorry to hear how closely the shooting affected your corner of the world.

BTW, it looks cold and lush there! I’m soooo jealous! Moved down to Colorado from Alaska a year and a half ago, and it’s amazing how much I miss cold lushness. Denver feels like a scorched desert on the surface of the sun right now.

Now THAT is a fun assignment! Great shots.
